Obituary – Nancy Deale Greene

Nancy Deale Greene, widow of actor Lorne Greene, died of cancer March 2, 2004, at the age of 70 in Los Angeles. Services were conducted March 4 at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles.

Raised in Long Island and Toronto, she appeared in stage, screen and television productions in both New York and Los Angeles. An accomplished artist and poet, Nancy also studied Russian and Chinese at UCLA and became a foreign policy consultant and expert in Civil Defense. After the death of Lorne Greene in 1987, she moved to Incline Village, Nev., and continued writing, public speaking and consulting.

She co-founded the National Women’s Political Caucus in Los Angeles, was an advisor to senators Hubert Humphrey and Henry Jackson, and founded the Women’s Institute of International Relations. The organization educates women on military and foreign policy issues and supports their professional participation in U.S. foreign policy institutions. She became a member of the prestigious Center for Arms Control and Foreign Policy.



Nancy is survived by her daughter, Gillian Greene-Raimi, and her four children; son-in-law, film director, Sam Raimi; step-children, Linda Bennett and Charles Greene; and her brother, Scott Ryder, and companion, Dr. Gerald Looney.
