Provided to the Tribune May 2, 2008 PrintEmail JoAnne Wood won first prize in the Tahoe Art League's April art contest for her large, complex watercolor titled "Splendor on the Grass."
The watercolor portrays a loose collection of maple leaves, pine needles and berries on the grass, all touched by light and tinged with warm color.
Second prize went to Sheila Walker for "Sisters," her oil portrait of an older girl holding a younger girl. Walker is one of Tahoe's most popular portrait artists. She knows her subjects well, often injecting a spark of whimsy into her paintings.
The landscape oil painting "Summer Day in Markleeville" took third prize for Nancy Clarke, whose body of works includes many scenes from the Sierra, the high desert and Lake Tahoe.
